r/evolution: « design does not impose, it proposes »
Design brings solutions to everyday life. Designers are the engine of this progress, whether they are embedded, avowed, protagonists or applied, they capture the evolutions in our life styles and translate them into products or services. By adopting them, we validate these innovations. Design is at the heart of change. It doesn’t impose, it proposes.
r/evolution: « design at the time of the 3rd industrial revolution »
Design was born with the industrial revolution. The technological progress of the 19th century caused a transition from an agrarian, artisanal world towards an industrial, commercial society. The evolutions of our lifestyle have been considerable. This is how design emerged as a discipline, as a response to a new system of production. By associating creation with the industrial process, design shifted the borders of technological process; consequently, innovation had new imperatives – function, use, aesthetics and comfort. The third industrial revolution, caused by its extension into new realms and the normalization of digital technologies, seems like it will have similarly dramatic effects. Design
and designers have a role to play in this transformation: to put these technologies at the service of humanity.
r/evolution: « extending the field of design »
Social, economic and technological changes have caused us to question even the practice of design. The methods developed by the discipline have been proved to be efficient. Indeed, co-creation systems, the value placed on studying the field and uses, the recognition of the need for synthesis and using constraints to find a specific solution, are now emulated by other sectors. Sound design, design management, design service, public design, design thinking… a r/evolution of the discipline and its actors is underway.
Once upon a tomorrow… the r/evolution!
Once upon a time… just like a fairy-tale, this anaphora has become part of the Festival programme for this year, introducing a poetic, narrative approach to the future. It’s an invitation to imagine new ideas, to share a story to come,
a scenario, to ensure our minds are sensitive to the possibilities of tomorrow.
Repeated like a musical refrain, this anaphora will be used throughout the D’Days communications and venues in the lead-up to and during the Festival.
